I think its worth the money.
I have gotten serious about my photography, along with about 10 million other people, but I stray. I thought I was doing pretty well in the image printing arena, since I could print images for my clients which matched what I was seeing on my monitor (with the exception of black and whites, see below). Anyway, I found out quickly I was in trouble when I sent my work to a professional lab for some special prints. My images were way too dark and too red. At first I didn't think it was my problem, but once I got my system fully calibrated and I was reproducing the prints the professional lab produced with my files, I knew my system had been the problem.
With respect to black and white images, I had always been frustrated with the lack of agreement between my printer and my monitor. I could never get my prints to have the same detail and range as my images in photoshop.

Spyder3 Studio Great Product Great Support
I'm about as happy with this product as with anythingn recently purchased. The product does what it is advertised as doing. I did have a hardware problem, which can happen with any product. But how it was handled was more than satisfactory. The techs at Datacolor quickly determined that I had a bad calibration unit and without any unnecessary delay replaced it from the factory.
I am very happy with the product and the support.

I'll add my $.02 to the other 5-star ratings. Very much worth it if you want more control other than throwing a file at the printer and hoping for the best. I unpacked it yesterday, and by end of day had a print of a photo that had been giving me trouble ready to stick on the wall. When I get a new computer gadget I usually go immediately to the mfr's website and download the latest drivers. For this that's a no and a yes...don't worry about the Spyder3Elite (and particularly don't get the 4.0x version because it's not for this product)...use what's on the CD. Do get the latest for the Spyder3Print SR because the install will go to the website anyway and tell you to get it. So get it first, and start the install from it. No worries. Follow the suggestions for the Spyder3Elite and reset your lcd monitor to factory settings. That went well for me. For the Spyder3Print SR I used the simplest, recommended targets to start. They yielded excellent results. I read a complaint somewhere that...
