Better Sound All Around
QUALIFICATIONS
I was classically trained from 4th grade into college. I've also played with rock, reggae, soul/funk, hip hop etc bands over many live gigs and studio sessions. I've tried a range of sticks over the years but I've been playing these since they came out.
FEEL
The Vic Firth American Sound 5A is just like a regular Vic Firth 5A but with a full round tip. They feel balanced. Making the switch from a comparable teardrop tip stick shouldn't be an issue feel-wise. I think the shoulder is a little thicker - i.e. the taper is different - than regular 5A's but not by too much. If anything, it's for the better.
The tip is a lot like the SD2 Bolero sticks. So I'd imagine these would do well on a concert snare drum. And they would feel thick but not too lightweight or hollow feeling like the Boleros.
SOUND
